2020 has been a year unlike many others. The unemployment rate was reported at 6.9% in October, having reached a high of approximately 14% in April. Facebook groups have been organized for people to share their needs and crowdsource assistance. Local governments are using relief money for economy boosting programs with vouchers for local businesses. People need help now more than ever, and I hope that in 2021, my family can be a part of the relief. There is always a lot of energy to serve and donate around the holidays but it tends to die down, and the people who need the help don’t magically disappear. They still need help.
We picked four local 501c3 non-profits to support in 2021. We’ll spend 3 months focusing on each organization (or similar ones i.e. the first quarter is the food pantry locally, but we may also help in other food banks etc.) so that we can make a real impact. We’ll be volunteering, donating, organizing, spreading awareness, whatever is needed for the organization and also feasible for our family. I’m excited to get more involved in my community and I hope that our efforts inspire others do to the same.
We’ll be serving these organizations in the coming year:
Now for the fun part. I’d really like to invite you to be a part of this. I’ve thought on this a lot. I don’t want any money in my hands because it’s too much for me to manage, so instead I’m setting up a few posts for each quarter, a form you can fill out, and I’m literally praying so hard that COVID-19 gets under control and we can do some fun in-person events dedicating to serving our communities and truly making the plays we live, work, and play better places to be for everyone.
If you want to participate in serving the organizations above (and probably others as the year goes on!) Please complete this form and I’ll make sure you’re notified of events or opportunities to donate time, goods, or money. Please know that any information you provide is private and will not be shared. You are also not making any commitments to me or this plan by completing it. My goal is to simply expand our impact, and that is so much easier for so many with specific and planned opportunities to serve!
I hope you’ll join me in dedicating some time to serving others in 2021.
